The Reality
There are currently 25 million orphaned children in India - that is more than the entire population in Australia. Many orphans who are not provided with loving supportive homes end up living on the streets fending for themselves.

A Beacon of Hope
OurHome Charitable Trust currently manages two children's homes and a local primary school for children who in many cases, would not be able to afford to attend school. OurHome strives to work with the local community so that no child is denied the right to an education, adequate shelter, love, care and a nutritional diet.

Here on our sunny little island
From what seems like only a half a world away I teach in a beautiful school equipped with computers, desks and books. I get paid well to teach happy and healthy children. It is clear to me that fortune does not always smile upon us all.

That’s why I want to help....and you can too.

Let your Beacon of Hope shine down
This Fall, I will be raising funds and school supplies for OurHome through an initiative I’ve named ‘LittleBigHelp’. For even the littlest donation -- even just one pencil -- we can make a huge difference!

The LittleBigHelp Initiative

LittleBigHelp Concert -
On September 11 2010, a benefit concert will be held to raise money for OurHome orphanage and primary school. All proceeds will go toward buying school supplies and basic necessities for the children in the orphanage.

The confirmed venue location and lineup will be announced in early August. A minimum donation of 7,000 won is suggested for an evening of music towards a great cause. However, you are welcome to donate more.

I already have two bands whom are willing to play for charity and possibly one more on the way! If you or anyone you know would like to perform please contact me directly.

Bring a Pencil to School Day -
To involve your schools in the initiative, we can encourage our students to donate a pencil to the Elementary School run by OurHome. This information is also available in Korean so you can present it to your schools and principals to explain what you wish to do and why. Not only will this allow your students to participate in a beautiful project, but it can also teach them about learning conditions in other parts of the world. You have the opportunity to can show them how important education is and how lucky they are to have it as a basic right, not a privilege.

The timing for ‘Bring a Pencil to School Day’ will be anytime in week after Chuseok (September 27th - October 1st). It was thought that this was a good time to be thankful and participate in such an initiative
Donation Delivery -

I will travel to OurHome, in Kerala South India, at my own expense and personally volunteer and deliver the funds raised to help the children at OurHome. Though new pencils may seem trivial items to us, to OurHome’s students they are a luxury and will put smiles on their faces. Rest assured, I will take lots of photos so you can see what a big difference you made. I will post these photos to this web log so that you can also share them with your kids.

I will be giving you more information on the initiatives and what else you can do to help OurHome in the near future utilizing this web log and group called LittleBigHelp created on Facebook. If you have any ideas or anything you would like to do to help beyond what’s mentioned above please contact me directly!

Thanks for you interest and may your beacon of hope shine brightly in all that you do!!
